Abomination of Desolation

The days of the abomination of desolation are quickly approaching and will cause many to fall prey to the devil that is behind all the evil within the world at large. So what is this “abomination of desolation”?  Let us turn to the wisdom of the Fathers of the Church for the meaning and the effects that this abomination will have on our lives. Let us listen to the words of St. Hilary in his commentary on Matthew (Canon 5).

Quote: “When you shall see the abomination of desolation, for the Prophet says this of the times of Antichrist. He is called abomination from this, that coming against God he arrogates to himself the honor due to God. The abomination of desolation because he will desolate the earth with wars and slaughters, and received by the Jews, he will stand in the place of sanctification; that where God is wont to be invoked by the prayers of the saints, he may be received by the perfidious as worthy of honor due to God. And because this error will be peculiar to the Jews; that they who rejected Truth shall receive falsehood; He warns they to forsake Judea and fly to the mountains, that they may not, by mingling with the people of Antichrist, be subjected to their contagion.”

In this quotation one must realize the cosmic conflict that rages between the minions of God’s angels and the forces of Lucifer. Truth cannot remain with error. There can be no compromise. Truth must defeat error and lead souls to the light of divine love. Error has its deadly influence throughout our societies. The world is the place of this battle and the desolation that will be caused by this abomination is seen clearly in the wars around this world. The general loss of the dignity of life and the ignorance of so many concerning their purpose in life opens the door to mass murder, abortion, euthanasia, etc.

Scandals are rocking the streets of Hollywood; Jewish liberalism is now exposing its ugly and disgusting face and who is most appalled by it:  the very liberals who want no limits and no code of morality. As Hilary points out the Jew rejected the incarnated Truth and open themselves up to the Father of all lies and error. They are ripe subjects for the Anti-Christ. Their treatment of those who are Christian will be so terrible and beastial that it will cause all to question their humanity. Their one and only goal is to destroy the Catholic Church, the Mystical Body of Christ, and to construct a world without its Creator, Redeemer or Sanctifier.

It shall not be for all creation will rise in uproar over the actions of the perfidious Jew and the cry will echo from one pole to the other. Those who seek to rule the world will in the end be subjected to it. The world can only serve its true Master, the holy and triune God. All the bloodshed we see and hear about; all the wars waging one after another; all the abortions remind us that God creates and gives life while the devil serves us a dish of death in many forms.

Yes, it is a battle for the hearts of men and women on the part of the Divine Love who never uses force to attract us but rather calls upon our reason to recognize the difference between a heaven of love or a hell of hatred. The Holy God, our Lady and the angels and saints bid us join in the battle for our souls by meditating upon our death to this world and the call to join the family of God. This call is a test of our reason to know that our time here is a brief moment compared to the eternal happiness which is the reward for those who will not yield to hatred and self-pleasure.

The words of our Lord ring True today, yesterday and tomorrow:  “Unless you die to yourself you cannot be worthy of the kingdom of God.”  Death is the condition for eternal life. Dying to self means rising to Christ for as the body is denied then the soul gains. Now the “abomination of desolation” is in our churches which are called the “Novus Ordo”. The Blessed Sacrament is removed for the ecumenical activity which seeks to unite souls in a faith that is contrary to the teachings of our Lord. Entertainment reigns; entitlements are numerous; and all is determined by political correctness. It is an abomination and its fruit is the desolation of mankind. What to do?

Turn your hearts to the message of our Lady of Sorrows. First anticipate the evil which is headed our way. Second die to the pleasures, the powers and the desire for security. Third absorb the abandonment that the world is experiencing as man takes the place of God. Fourth enter into the silence that will prepare you for the complete acceptance of the will of God expressed by His providential plan. Fifth, deepen your love for your mother whom Christ gave us while He hung upon the Cross of salvation. Sixth, embrace all the wounds of our Lord and be devoted to revealing to others the utter depths of God’s love for us. Finally, bury the Lord in your heart by daily meditating upon His holy words to us. If you follow this pattern you will find yourself headed toward the heaven you desire with all your heart.

I will pray for you and hope that you will lift a prayer or two for this poor priest. Have a holy and thankful Thanksgiving.

In the hearts of Jesus, Mary and Joseph,

Fr. Voigt, S.D.B.
