Christmas Sunday 2016

The NativityMany years ago God chose to create a world with every imaginable creature. Through His mighty word all things came to be and then He took the dust of the earth and formed the body of man. Finally He breathed into man a soul. From that moment on the infused knowledge of man was able to assist him in naming each creature that God presented to man. Yet in all this creative activity there was not found a single creature that could be man’s helpmate. Contemplating this missing creature, God placed man in a deep sleep and then He removed from man a rib from under his heart.

Taking that rib God formed “woman” for she was taken out of man. This establishes the eternal debt that woman has to man. This debt could not be repaid by Eve or any other woman who would be tainted with sin. For as Eve was deceived by Satan she became an adversary rather than an advocate for man. Today her adversarial nature is becoming more and more evident as she seeks to take the authority that God gave to man and make it her own. Consider the words that God gave in regards to fallen Eve. Eve and all women are to be “subject” to their husbands. Just as children should be subject to their parents so woman in reparation for their fall must be subject to their husbands. Strife enters into the family when the woman takes the lead and begins to dictate to her husband.

Understanding the fall of man and woman there is still the debt that woman has toward the man who sacrificed his rib for her existence. Only one woman is pure enough to perform the act of submission and generation. She is the maiden chosen by the Father to give birth and be the mother of His only begotten Son and she would be the spouse of the Holy Ghost. That woman is Mary, the Lady par excellance. Would she consent to this act of reparation and give to God a man. Fiat voluntas tua, Thy Will be done. Angels rejoiced, all earth cried out in joy and the animals bowed in worship of the new Adam. The New Eve generated the new Adam by an act of obedience. It was disobedience that hindered the first Eve and all women following in her footsteps.

Now the time is near for the re-enactment of that moment of reparation and salvation. Soon the new Adam, our Lord Jesus Christ, would make His entrance into the world. Prepare ye the way of the Lord and make straight the pathway. Mountains of pride must be leveled through humility. Valleys of lust must be raised through purity. A New Earth and a new pattern of generation is upon us. Let us be of “good will” and allow God to use our human nature to bring about the reformation of this world of sin to become a world of grace.

My prayer for each of you is to allow the new Adam to be given life through your holy confessions and your reception of Christ in the holy Eucharist this Sunday. God bless us all and to all a holy Christmas.

In the hearts of Jesus, Mary and Joseph,

Fr. Richard Voigt
