4th Sunday After Easter 2019

Sin, Justice and Judgment: the Spirit is coming

Elizabeth Warren, Beto, Kamala, de Blasio, etc. all proclaim the sin of abortion as a “Constitutional Right”; sin has been legalized but it has not been canonized. When the law of God is converted to the law of the demonic the result is death. As the psalmist states: “they offered their children in sacrifice to strange gods.” The strange god is none other than the eternal deceiver of mankind: the Devil. The signs of our times cry out as sin is converted to the “norm” and leftism reigns over the demon-cratic party. We must rediscover the reality of sin in our lives in order to do battle with it in the society in which we live and move and have our being.

The reality of sin touches every human being. It has its own categories: original, personal, societal, mortal or venial. In effect they are all united in the very first sin that polluted our environment; therefore, we must return to our origins. Original sin is the sin of our parents and the sins of our parents visit their children. There is a constant flowing river that has flooded mankind throughout the centuries. As it increases so the need for a Savior increased. The Original Syndrome (as I call it) is that which makes the children say “I don’t like what daddy did or said.” There is a childhood memory of all that may have hurt us when we were young. Consider the example of the drunken father who likes the stuff but the stuff turns him into a tyrant with the kids. The children cannot say to daddy “I do not like when you drink too much.” They would probably initiate some act of retribution.

The fact is that when we are young we pack what we do not love into an emotional portion of our soul that will say “I won’t do what mommy did to me.” In other words we condemn our parents instead of understanding them and forgiving what offense we have received at their hands. Sin has this effect which can be summed up in the word: blame. We will blame mom or dad for that which we couldn’t understand as little psyches growing up. The original syndrome multiplies itself in our personal sins. Once we condemn our mother, father, brother or sister then we are condemning ourselves to “repeat” that sin in our lives. Then we look at our souls and ask: “What am I doing?”

In personal sin we play out the effects of the Original Sin through the ages of our lives. In youth we turn to the personal sin of sensuality and cater to whatever the body cries out for. It may be sweets, money, sex, popularity. The fact is that we are now losing the Holy Ghost as we intensify the movement to the un-holy spirit. The Church has the answer for the personal sins that affect us: “confess your sins to the priest.” This sacrament confirms the plan of God Who sent His Son to pay the price for our souls and to give us the power to conquer sin and develop virtue.

From sensuality in our young years we graduate to the quest for power in our work ethic and our development of our families. We want others to bow down to our wishes. Today we see it in the democratic party who will do anything to once again dominate the power structure of the political scene. This indicates that our leaders never grew up and somehow believe that they are entitled to ruling over us. Our Lord gave the correct response to this infantile attitude when He washed the feet of His Apostles. If He the Lord and Master washed their feet then they are to go forth and wash the feet of their brothers. Power is purified when it serves rather dominate.

In the third age of our lives sin moves from sensuality to power and now to security. Stalin, Lenin and others all employ scientist to find the cure to old age. They want to have life forever in this world but it shall not be. The truth is that this world and its soil is infected with the disease of sin and the result is always the same: death. Everything and everyone will come to an end and a new heavens and a new earth will be given to those who conquer the effects of sin.

Personal sin develops into the communal sin which is flourishing today in the ultimate sins that cry out to God for vengeance. Abortion, euthanasia, sterilization, graft, lust for power, fornication, etc abound in our” apostate” society. This is a society which has turned its back to the teachings of the Son of God. He is the true vine and we are to be the branches that bring forth the fruit of holiness. The branches are no longer producing the fruit of eternal truth. In the hierarchy of the Church of the New Advent error has replaced truth (e.g. divorced and re-married souls living in sin can approach the holy Eucharist, idolatry has been proclaimed in Vat. II Lumen Gentium 16, Christ has become subject to culture, evolution has been applied to the doctrines of the faith).

As sin abounds and the un-holy spirit rants and raves against any mention of the name of Jesus, then we must resist sin by the power of the Truth. No one can change the truth that Jesus is the Son of God. His Word to us convicts us and society of sin (John 16). Justice has returned with the resurrection of Jesus and now He stands at the right hand of the Father ready to do battle for the souls that stand with Him. Justice is our gift to Him when we hold to His teaching, reject the errors of Satan and learn to remain united with Him in daily prayer, meditation and almsgiving.

Our actions bring about the judgment of Jesus upon this world and the prince of this world. This world and all the pleasure Satan uses to confuse souls is passing. It is an illusion as Satan colludes with the people of the left to mock and confuse those who retain the semblance of a conscience. Make no mistake: we are cheerfully battling for our eternal happiness with Jesus, our Lord. The judgment is now. Either we confirm that Jesus is the Son of God and that He is the Way, the Truth, the good Shepherd or we deny Him. To deny Him is to affirm the evolutionary mentality of Vatican II and to state that God is not the same, today, yesterday and forever.

Surely the result of affirming that the Mystical Body of Christ must imitate the Head and remain the same forever; It must be one in its teaching and its sacraments. We cannot allow a false ecumenism blind us to the teaching of the Church from the very beginning: “There is no salvation outside the Catholic Church.” One body demands only one Head and that Head prepares the body for the gift of the Holy Ghost which will lead us to our participation in the Divine Nature of Christ. This is the goal: the Beatific Vision and our union with our Lady and all the saints and angels of heaven. We long for the Coronation of Our Blessed Mother and Queen. In this Satan and sin is conquered forever. Take sin and the battle for virtue seriously and learn the lesson of the Our Father: Love alone conquers the effect of sin = death. Prepare well for the coming of Pentecost.

In the hearts of Jesus, Mary and Joseph,

Fr. Richard Voigt, S.D.B.
