2nd Sunday After Easter – Good Shepherd Sunday

Where is the Good Shepherd Now?

Can you see the disorder rising around you? Do you know what the future holds for those who have not faith? Is the Good Shepherd sleeping or waiting? With over 60 million children slaughtered on the altar of the demon, with the overturning of the meaning of marriage, with the unbridled sexual expressions exposed everywhere, what should one think about the future of this futile world of ours. Turn to the Good Shepherd for the answer. Where sin abounds grace will abound all the more. Love has a way of conquering evil in such a way that soul will be in awe at God’s wisdom manifested.

Yes, we are coming to the days of the cosmic battle because Satan’s time is short and his fury knows no boundary. The Good Shepherd knows how to protect His own but are we alert to what we as His sheep should do. He has given us a mentor and a mother to teach us to rely on our nothingness. We are nothing; this world is futile; Satan will destroy all those who think he is their god. Our Lady’s heal is prepared to crush that robber and snake and present to her children an era of peace under the Kingship of her Son.

Consider the image of the Good Shepherd in the typical scene of shepherds with their sheep. These good shepherds call in the herd to a fenced area and these good shepherds lie down at the door so that nothing can enter or leave without the permission of the living door, the good shepherds. Our Lord is gathering us into the ark of the covenant, our Lady, the Church. Our Lady presents us with the power of the rosary which when prayed by those who recognize that they are nothing realize in their nothingness the unimaginable power of God. We don’t have to do a thing: Our Lord and our Lady will do it all for us. Claim your nothingness. Receive His divine power.

No one can stop you from hiding under the mantel of our Mother. She is the instrument of the Good Shepherd. As He laid down His Life for our salvation so now we must lay down our pride, our ego and humbly bend the knee before the Good Shepherd and offer Him that which is ours: our sinfulness. He wants that only. Trust Him for He died for you. He does not let the wolf steal that which belongs to Him. He will eliminate the hirelings that seek only the goods of this world for their reward. Check out your “sensus fidelis” and know that the good shepherds sacrifice for the flock.

The time is now and the heart of each one of us will be tried and the gold within will be purified. Pray now more than ever before. It is serious and only time will tell what God will do but we are assured of the ultimate victory through all the turmoil that awaits us. Seek only the kingdom of God within you and keep that priority at the forefront of your mind. Take every day as if it were the last one you have on this earth and follow the Good Shepherd even to the point of death. Heaven must be your heart’s home for if you save your soul you have accomplished the very purpose of your life. Pray for me and I will daily offer the holy mass for your protection and salvation.

In the hearts of Jesus, Mary and Joseph,

Fr. Richard Voigt, S.D.B
